AI marking and feedback
StudyLoop uses artificial intelligence to mark answers, give feedback on coursework and build revision schedules. To do this, the text of your answer or upload is sent to an AI model provider through our app platform. We don't send your name or email with it.
AI marks are a guide to help you revise. They aren't official grades, can be wrong, and are never used to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you. If a mark looks wrong, use “Report a problem” in the app.
Who we share it with
We only share data with companies that help us run StudyLoop, under contracts that require them to protect it:
- Base44: hosts the StudyLoop app and its database.
- Stripe: processes payments and stores card details.
- AI model providers: process answers and uploads to produce marks and feedback, through Base44.
- Email delivery: sends account, billing and reminder emails, through Base44.
Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, they use legal safeguards approved under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.
Other students only see what you choose to share: your display name, friends, group activity, game scores and shared notes. Your grades, private notes and coursework are never shown to others.
We may share data if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
How long we keep it
- Your account and study data: while your account is open. If you delete your account, we delete it within 30 days, apart from backups, which expire within a further 30 days.
- Inactive accounts: deleted after 2 years without a log-in. We email you first.
- Payment and tax records: 6 years, because UK tax law requires it.
- Support messages: 2 years.
Young people
StudyLoop is for students aged 13 and over, who can agree to us using their data themselves under UK law. We ask you to confirm your age when you sign up, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If we find an under-13 account, we delete it. If you think a child under 13 is using StudyLoop, tell us at light.logic2026@gmail.com.
We follow the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code. That means:
- Private settings by default. Grades, notes and coursework are visible only to you.
- No adverts, no selling data, and no location tracking.
- Friends are only people you add yourself, and you can decline requests or remove friends at any time.
- We only collect what StudyLoop needs to work.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data
- correct data that's wrong
- delete your data (you can also do this yourself with Settings → Delete my account)
- limit or object to how we use it
- send your data to you or another service in a usable format
- withdraw consent for marketing emails at any time
Email light.logic2026@gmail.com and we'll reply within one month. It's free.
Changes and complaints
If we make important changes to this policy, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they apply.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
